A lovely surprise: nomination for the Katzer / Goldmann CD for the German Record Critics' Award in the category "Contemporary Music".
Busy spring time: wonderful reunions with the BBC Philharmonic and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra (here's a lovely review from Edinburgh) as well as exciting debuts with the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, Malmö SymfoniOrkester and Weimar Staatskapelle!
Unfortunately, we had to cancel some concerts at the Munich Chamber Orchestra in February. But they will all be made up - in July 2022 or then in the season 2022/2023. Please have a look at the dates on my homepage or at www.m-k-o.eu.
All the more, I am looking forward to my debut with the Orchestre symphonique de Québec and the second part of the CD recordings with works by Marton Illés.
Luca Francesconi's "Duende" - an incredibly colourful and effective violin concerto (Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto (soloist: Ilya Gringolts)
Anna Thorvalsdottir "Aeriatily" - dazzling, meditative, powerful. (BBC Symphony Orchestra)
Anton Eberl Overture "Queen of the Black Isles" - a rediscovery, not played for over 200 years (MKO)
A personal highlight was certainly the rehearsal week and performance of Gustav Mahler's 9th Symphony with the Copenhagen Philharmonic Orchestra. What an incredible work!
These were turbulent times. Many cancellations, many worries have accompanied us artists in the last few years. I am all the more grateful for the many positive experiences AFTER the lockdown. Here is a selection of the outstanding orchestras that I - having just met - will soon be able to see again: BBC Symphony Orchestra, Hallé Orchestra, Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto, Stavanger Symphony, Tapiola Sinfonietta, Turku Symphony Orchestra.
See you soon!
I am looking forward to the CD production with Patricia Kopatchinskaja together with the MKO: We are recording Marton Illé's violin concerto "Vont-tér" this December in Munich!

The recording with works by Friedrich Goldmann and Georg Katzer with the label NEOS has been released.

Debut with the BBC Symphony - available on BBC until 20 November.
My debut with the BBC Symphony Orchestra will be available to listen to for a while.

You can experience the broadcast of the last subscription with Francesco Piemontesi as well as the world premiere of Justė Janulytė's work "Apnoe" and Mozart's Prague Symphony on July 28 at 6:05 pm on BR Klassik.
New times need new formats:
On July 15, there will be a hybrid concert (online and live) with the MKO about "Einsamkeit in der Großstadt" or "Living among strangers is my home" with works by Haydn, Eisler, Romitelli and Dessner.
The guest will be Niklas Maak, author and architectural reviewer for the FAZ.
We are recording works by Thomas Larcher for the ECM label in June: Welcome Alisa Weilerstein and Sarah Aristidou in Munich!
A Guest with Friends:
We, the Munich Chamber Orchestra and I, are guests again at the Mozartfest Würzburg: on 16 June in the Kaisersaal of the Residenz! I am looking forward to Mozart's "Prague Symphony", the "Jeunehomme" concert with Rafał Blechacz and a new work by Justė Janulytė!
Live music is finally back!
Exciting projects in Munich can take place in front of an audience: The 8th subscription concert with works by Mozart and a world premiere by Justė Janulytė (soloist Rafał Blechacz) as well as the portrait concert by M.Weinberg (soloist Nicolas Altstaedt)!
Making music again finally!
On 10 May at 7.30 pm there will be a live stream from the Stadttheater Aschaffenburg with Christian Tetzlaff, the Munich Chamber Orchestra and works by Adès, Mozart and Haydn.
Now the time has come: we are recording Britten's Lachrymae for BR with Nils Mönkemeyer. In addition, we will perform the world premiere of a new version of Hans Abrahamsen`s "Ten Preludes" as well as the German premiere of Thomas Adès' "Shanty - over the sea" - both commissioned by the MKO!
The subsequent recording is a matter of the greatest passion - after all, I have lived in Dresden and Weimar for a long time. We wanted to rediscover the music of the former GDR and in the process I discovered two exciting composers: Friedrich Goldmann and Georg Katzer! We are recording 2 works by each of them!
An exciting month is coming up:
The CD-project with the Württembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen and Oliver Triendl is heading into the final phase. We are recording wonderful music by Wilhelm Berger (1st Symphony and the Concert Piece for Piano and Orchestra). With my Münchener Kammerorchester, a BR radio production and a CD-recording with the label NEOS are still scheduled for March.
More details soon!
The musical socialisation in the former GDR was a special one, as was the music created there: my favourites are Friedrich Goldmann and
Georg Katzer. We will soon be paying attention to these composers with the Munich Chamber Orchestra!
The project of recording music by Wilhelm Berger and the Württembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen continues: in March I will record the concert piece for piano and orchestra together with Oliver Triendl.
The 1st Symphony was surprisingly good music! I'll keep you posted.
Finally there are concerts again, even if only online for the time being:
I am looking forward to Stavanger Symfoniorkester, Tapiola Sinfonietta, Svenska Kammarorkestern and the Konzerthausorchester Berlin.
But I don't give up the hope that we will soon be able to play live for you again!
Today I would normally travel to conduct concerts in Tasmania and New Zealand. I look forward to catching up on these great concerts with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra and the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra next year.
The 1st concert of the season I conduct next door: In the wonderful Himmelfahrtskirche in
Munich-Sendling we have created a concert series (PROLOG) with amazing guests.
60 minutes, 2 concerts in the evening, from baroque to modern:
www.m-k-o.eu
Let's start into the new season!
Under different conditions, we at the Münchener Kammerorchester try to realize as much of our plans as possible. See for yourself ->
In the 1st subscription at the Prinzregententheater (15.10.) we play the world premiere of the new violin concerto by Beat Furrer together with Ilya Gringolts!
We were creative!
We react to concert cancellations with a small, newly conceived autumn festival in Munich-Sendling, my home town.
Together with me, Omer Meir Welber, Nicolas Altstaedt, Enrico Onofri and many others created the "Prologue I-VI" for the neighbour's season.
Tickets at www.m-k-o.eu
Finally, music again! But we, the MKO, wanted more: to send a signal.
Marco Blaauw Georg Friedrich Haas' "I Can't Breathe" was first played on the lonely stage - accompanied by works on distance and (dis)harmony (Gorecki), obvious idyll (Copland's "A Quiet City") and Xenakis abstract rage piece "Voile".
At the end some music of comfort and a summery finale in the garden of Villa Stuck (see Abendzeitung).
Now it' s summer break!
Today rehearsals in London for "Mitridate Re in Ponte" for the festival in Garsington had begun. Listen to it - this work is a stroke of genius by the 14-year-old Mozart! And take a look at this incredible place: www.garsingtonopera.org
Unfortunately we had to cancel the charity concert for the "Münchener Aids-Hilfe" on May 7th. Nevertheless we ask for your donation for this wonderful and important institution in the heart of Munich. You can find the bank details and further information on that charity project at www.m-k-o.eu.
